So there.
Half Training Schedule weeks 1-3
I think I did pretty good. Let's talk about the days with the skull 'n' bones, shall we? My first long run was to be 4.5 miles. I knew it was going to be rough coming off the holidays and a head cold, but I went into the run pretty optimistic. I got to the 3.5 mile mark and thought "Ok, only one more mile, you can do this!" And then my legs said "hell to the no". And I was done.
Then, the middle of the next week I went into my 3 miler knowing that my legs were already cashed. I had increased my squat weight in Body Pump and had done my first speed training on Tuesday. The fact that I even made it to the gym that Thursday was incredible. I made it 1.5 miles and dragged myself home.
By the next Tuesday there was no way I was doing speed work. After a 5 miler on the weekend my legs and brain needed a rest.
On to the good stuff. I completed a 6 mile run! On Superbowl Sunday, no less. The weather was forecasted to be 37F and sunny. Well, at 1:30 it was still 30F and cloudy but JT and I laced up our shoes and went out anyway.
This is were I'm going to tell you a story about my RunKeeper app. RunKeeper tracks my runs via GPS through my iPhone. I have it set up so every 5 minutes a voice tells me my time, distance and pace. At the start of our run we hit the 5 minute mark and the voice says "Time 5 minutes. Distance 2.2 miles". Whoa, what?! So, I stop the app and restart it, knowing that our distance for the rest of the run will be off by about a 1/2 mile. We continue on and throughout the whole run we're averaging an 10:30-11:30 min/mile pace. We get to the end, I stop the app and suddenly it tells me we're at a 16min pace and we've been running for nearly 2 hours. Not correct. I think my phone was just mad that it had to be outside in the freezing temps and didn't want to work right.
In the end we figured out we ran a total of 6.18 miles at an average pace of 12:30 (which is probably correct because I stopped for a while around the 3mile mark to try and stretch out a side cramp.) By the time we got home my thighs were frozen and my knees were screaming at me but we made it.
Then we went to a Superbowl party and ate a bunch of food guilt-free!
Now this week, my training is going to be all screwed up. Last night I went to a city council meeting, tonight I'm doing dinner with my mom and aunt. Tomorrow we're driving to Milwaukee. So I won't have time to do anything until Thursday. I'm going to do my best to not get derailed by this trip.
What have you been up to? Who's been working on their fitness?

The very last question....Not me! ;) I suck.
I'm super impressed with your 6 miles! Not a chance I could get to 12:30 in that weather and that distance! My legs went dead on me at about mile 4 last week. That was the first time I've ever experienced my legs wanting to stop when my heart rate was doing fine. Bodies can be silly sometimes. As for the runkeeper app? I had it do that to me a few times with my last training. I couldn't run a 16 minute pace if I tried. 14 minutes is dead leg territory where I probably could walk faster.
You are seriously rocking and rolling! #CathysCrew for the WIN!
all skulls and cross bones aside girl you are rocking this! I'm with Hutch I'm very impressed with the 6 miles. I can't even imagine getting that far. My biggest issue is always vacations or time spent away from my normal schedule it F's me up every time! Good luck making it happen, I know you can do it! I'm on week 2 of Turbo Fire and while I'm feeling better I realize how much sitting on your butt for 3 months puts you out of commission!!!! I'm working on it though - trying not to push too hard, but also not letting myself "be a sissy" either. Thanks for the inspiration!!!
i worked on my fitness for about a week this year, then quit. i suck. yep...
I have not been working on my fitness, but it's time. I am going to Florida next month and am going to be in a bathing suit.
But, the weird thing is that I'm going there with my whole family and I feel icky trying to look better in a bathing suit in front of my brothers and my dad.
